Google Chat, a communication platform that competes with Slack and Microsoft Teams, is getting a new feature that will make it easier and faster to write messages. The quality, called Smart Compose, is powered by artificial intelligence and provides real-time suggestions for relevant phrases as you type. The feature is already available in Gmail and Google Docs, and will soon roll out to Google Chat on the web.
How Does Smart Compose Work?
Smart Compose uses machine learning to analyze the context of your message and offer suggestions that match your tone and style. For example, if you write a letter to a colleague about a project deadline, Smart Compose might suggest phrases like “Thanks for the update” or “Let me know if you need help.”
To accept a suggestion, you just need to press the Tab key on your keyboard. You can also ignore or delete a request if you don’t like it. Smart Compose can help you save time by reducing repetitive writing and minimizing spelling and grammatical errors.
It can also help you avoid cognitive biases affecting your languages, such as gender or racial stereotypes. Google says it is actively researching how to handle unintended bias and mitigate its impact.
