Sony added a small but cool feature to the PlayStation 5 with the latest update, and they didn’t even talk about it. Usually, consoles get updates to make them work better and to add new stuff.
A PlayStation 5 player noticed this feature and shared it on Reddit. Now, when you turn off the PlayStation 5, you’ll see a new animation. The screen fades to black, and then lots of white dots come together to make the shape of the PlayStation 5’s white sides. It’s a nice touch that makes turning off the console look cooler.

Oddly, Sony didn’t mention this new feature in the update notes, but it’s a fun surprise. People on Reddit liked it, saying things like “That looks sick” and wondering if it was always there.
This new feature has made some people wish Sony would bring back dynamic themes for the home screen, like the ones on the PlayStation 4. Dynamic themes change the look of the home screen and are something people enjoy.
The animation when you turn off the PlayStation 5 is similar to the startup videos on the Steam Deck, where you can choose different animations. It would be nice if more consoles let you customize them like this, making each one feel special to the owner.
