It’s true that the Pikmin games were never as popular as Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, or Metroid, but it hasn’t prevented Nintendo from making more. We’re relieved because the Pikmin series is just brilliant. The following installment, titled Pikmin 4, was announced during Nintendo’s September 2022 Direct.
Even though we don’t know much about it, we’re intrigued by this announcement, which comes about a decade after the previous entry. The newest entry in the offbeat strategy series introduces a new Pikmin kind and a cute canine sidekick.
The game will be released for the Nintendo Switch in the summer of 2023, giving it prime timing to attract more fans to the series than ever before.

Pikmin 4 Release Date: Specific Date of Availability

Pikmin 4 Platforms
Due to the nature of Pikmin being a first-party Nintendo franchise, the upcoming installment will not be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or any other console. Like Pikmin 3, which was originally released on Wii U before making its way to Nintendo Switch, Pikmin 4 is now slated for release on Nintendo Switch, while it is possible that it will also make its way to Nintendo’s next console.
Pikmin 4 Gameplay
The gameplay of Pikmin combines aspects of real-time strategy and puzzle solving, and it often features a time-based mechanism in which the player must collect resources before the sun sets.
There is usually a sizable world to discover, full of dangerous enemies to vanquish, items to find, and fruit to eat. You take charge of a space traveler with the ability to direct the Pikmin as they move across the play area. Different planets from across the cosmos serve as backdrops for the game’s many stages.
The Rock Pikmin, for example, can be tossed at walls and other constructions to easily break them down. You’ll need these Pikmin to get through the stages and reach the boss fights at the end of each. Pikmin stands itself from the competition because of the unique way it combines elements of strategy, time management, and clever puzzle design.
This installment expands on that concept by introducing a new ice Pikmin kind and a dog partner, both of which will bring fresh ideas to the puzzle-strategy franchise.
In a first for the series, Nintendo emphasizes that you’ll be able to take control of the Pikmin. The isometric perspective of the previous Pikmin games allows for a wide field of view. We don’t know if this fresh viewpoint will be a separate option, or if it will be switchable; Nintendo hasn’t revealed any details.
Pikmin 4 Preorder
You can now preorder Pikmin 4 from Amazon and the Nintendo eShop. Unlike The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which cost $40, this one will set you back $60. The Nintendo Switch Game Voucher can be used to purchase the game.
