Story and Setting
Pikmin 4 builds off the narrative of the previous games. In Pikmin 3, the inhabitants of your home planet Koppai suffered from a serious famine. To save the starving population you and some other explorers were sent out to collect seeds. This is where you first encounter the Pikmin who help you in your endeavor.
In Pikmin 4, while searching for new seeds, some of your fellow tiny travelers have become lost. You must find and return the castaways scattered throughout this unknown world safely. You will also encounter a new ally, a roly-poly dog named Oatchi, who will assist you in your mission.
The game occurs on a mysterious planet called PNF-404, inhabited by various creatures and plants. Some of them are friendly, while others are hostile. You must use your wits and your Pikmin to overcome the challenges and dangers that await you.

Gameplay
As a real-time strategy game, Pikmin 4 revolves around puzzles. You’ll use various types of Pikmin to scale obstacles, fight enemies, and collect treasure that can be used to build up your base. Each type of Pikmin has its own abilities and weaknesses.
For example, Red Pikmin is immune to fire, Blue Pikmin can breathe underwater, Yellow Pikmin can conduct electricity, Purple Pikmin are strong but slow, White Pikmin are fast but poisonous, Rock Pikmin can break hard objects, Winged Pikmin can fly over gaps, Ice Pikmin can freeze enemies, and so on.
Pikmin 4 introduces some new features that are set to make this RTS game a thrilling addition to the series. For instance, you can now use a whistle-like device called the Pik-Pod to deploy your Pikmin from anywhere on the map.
This allows you to switch between different groups of Pikmin more easily and strategically. You can also use the Pik-Pad, a tablet-like device that shows you a map of the area and lets you communicate with other explorers.
Another new feature is the addition of Oatchi, a friendly dog-like creature that will accompany you on your adventure. Oatchi can sniff out hidden items, dig up buried treasure, carry items back to your base, distract enemies, and even ride on your head.
Oatchi is also very cute and loyal, making him a great companion for you and your Pikmin. Pikmin 4 will also offer various modes of play besides the main story mode.
There will be a Mission Mode, where you can complete specific objectives within a time limit; a Bingo Battle Mode, where you can compete with another player in collecting items; and a Piklopedia Mode, where you can learn more about the Pikmin, the enemies, and the plants that you encounter in the game.
If you want to try the game before buying it, you can download the Pikmin 4 Demo from the Nintendo Switch eShop. The demo will let you play the game’s first hours and transfer your saved data to the full game once it’s out.
