The Xbox Showcase served as the venue for the announcement of Payday 3’s release date and the first in-depth gameplay trailer. It promised fast-paced heist gameplay, a new spin on the clown masks from the first game, and many brand-new locations.
The teaser displayed new and old skills on numerous multi-tiered urban maps. It roughly corresponds to the progression of a level in the video game Payday, with a shadowy figure speaking in the shadows explaining the plot, the robbers donning masks in the bank lobby, and then storming the vault as waves of police try to stop them.
Although Payday often has a sneaky character, this film was clearly more action-oriented. Like in previous Payday games, players can direct hostage-taking, command NPCs to stand down, and remotely disable security measures.
A machine gun turret could be deployed, attackers could be marked with a holographic sight, levels could be descended by blowing holes in the floor, and police units might be ambushed via electrical traps, among other offensive powers seen in the trailer.
