Outlast Trials Release: Red Barrels has created and will soon release The Outlast Trials, a cooperative first-person psychological survival horror game. As a precursor to the prior two games, it is the third entry in the Outlast series.
Although there will also be a single-player option, the game debuts with a cross-platform online co-op feature that supports up to four people.
Outlast Trials Release Date
Red Barrels later withdrew the release date, saying the game was still in development. The original release date was 2021. Red Barrels debited the first gameplay trailer for Trials on August 25, 2021, as part of Gamescom 2021, before postponing the game once more for a 2022 release.
Outlast Trials Plot
The Cold War era is the setting for this game, which is set in the same universe as other Outlast-related games. Players assume the role of test subjects known as Reagents who have been kidnapped by the Murkoff Corporation.
Players will be put through a series of physical and mental ordeals, tortured by iconic characters, and challenged alone or in teams to survive with their sanity intact while imprisoned in a secret Murkoff facility made up of a dozen warehouses connected by underground tunnels.
Murkoff has built scaled-up representations of real-world surroundings inside the warehouses. Reagents return to the Sleep Room in between experiments, where Murkoff takes good care of them. Reagents can communicate with Murkoff staff to receive the supplies they need for their upcoming trial.

Outlast Trials Game Trailer
Red Barrels published a 90-second cinematic teaser on June 13, 2020, as a component of the PC Gaming Show. The clip begins with multiple doctors forcibly attaching a night vision gadget to the head of a person who is immobilized.
The scene then cuts to a hallway chase scene where two escapees help one another escape but are quickly put down by their pursuers; one is stabbed in the back of the neck while the other has his head crushed by a shadowy figure wielding a sledgehammer.
As the title card overlaps across the screen to reveal the tagline “Freedom ends in 2021,” alluding to the galactic war, the head surgeon orders his staff to bring in the remaining test subjects. Is It Just A Game by Buddy & the Fads is the music that plays at the beginning of the trailer.

The Outlast Trials Kicks off Closed Beta
Red Barrels released Trials’ third overall trailer on August 23, 2022, as part of Gamescom 2022, when they announced registration for a closed beta that took place between October 28 and November 1, 2022.
Randomly chosen players who wishlist the game on Steam would be contacted by email and asked to participate. Early beta testers had several connection problems that either prevented them from connecting to the servers—to which the beta was connected—or kicked them out of their sessions.
The developers later took steps to alleviate these problems. After the session, players were given the option to complete a survey to voice their opinions on the game’s design, discuss their experiences, and offer helpful criticism to the creators.
The beta offered two trials, the first of which served as a skippable tutorial. It introduces the player to the game’s world and controls. To completely give yourself over to the Murkoff Corporation and start their fictitious therapy, the player must destroy all files about their public and private life.
This narrative background is provided by the trial. Mother Gooseberry, a character who follows the player across the entire level, is also introduced during the trial. The second and primary beta trial, “Snitches get Stiches,” has the player breaking into a police station to track down and assassinate the snitch.
The player is hunted and pursued by Leland Coyle, a schizophrenic police warden with a shock rod, as well as several other insane inmates throughout the second trial. The trial is playable on four different levels of difficulty: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Insane.
Each level is unlocked by completing the trial on the previous difficulty. Each level of difficulty alters a different part of the test, with higher levels introducing new terrain obstacles and making old ones more challenging.
Adding motion cameras that must be avoided to keep the gate open, making existing opponents more aware of the player’s presence, and making lockpicking problems more difficult are a few examples of these.
The player gained in-game currency after passing the trial, which they could spend to purchase character cosmetics inside of their cell. You could purchase a variety of different cosmetic options, ranging from whole costumes to little upgrades like new goggles, toaster skins, and player icons.
If any of them make it into the official release, it is unknown if early access players will receive any unique cosmetics for taking part in the closed beta test.
