Factions. Internal strife, the rumor of wealth For the past four days, the Nier: Automata crowd is now at each other’s throats about a hidden compartment that no one ever knows how to enter, because Nier Automata’s Mysterious Hidden Entrance Tends to keep Becoming Stranger. This might be a deceptive scam or a great piece of viral marketing. There is no question that the entire situation is absurd.
Naturally, this would occur in the universe of PlatinumGames’ action-role playing game Nier: Automata, which is so unpredictable and odd that you can accidentally finish the match by feeding a fish. Nier: Automata, created by video game design guru Yoko Taro and initially released in 2017, is a treasure trove of secrets and alternate endings.

Before Lance McDonald, a well-known modder and data miner discovered a flaw in the game’s code that allows you to go right to the “true” conclusion last year, fans had assumed they had seen everything the game has to offer. The “ultimate secret” was confirmed even by Yoko Taro himself, it seems.
But that last secret started to look less than certain two months ago. Several specialized Nier subreddits received a question from a Nier: Automata player with the Reddit user name Sadfutago asking, “How do you ever get in the church”.
That doesn’t always mean it is. There are a number of things about the whole process that don’t quite add together, even while we are aware that there aren’t readily available tools to perform anything like altering the game.
According to the famous Nier modding Discord player Wats3, who went by Church Non-Believer, “the evidence, at this time, is pushing so strongly to the reality that it isn’t genuine that it’s hard to imagine it could be.” “The likelihood that it is phony is so much greater than the likelihood that it is true.”
Over the past few days, members of Nier Discord quickly established a few channels that were dedicated to learning how to acquire entry to the church. Perhaps one of them, church-hunt-live, has spent the entire morning dissecting the arguments in favor of and against the church’s legitimacy. I looked over my shoulder away around 9:40 ET. When I checked in again at 9:57 a.m. ET, there were shockingly 271 new messages. After 17 minutes. The channel has kept at that pace the entire day.
It’s a puzzling interconnected web of ideas, emotions, and concepts, with a lot of individuals holding a lot of different beliefs, like most Internet-powered discussions. However, there are often two groups of people. Now, in broad strokes.
The Reason For
At first sight, it is simple to assume that this is stuff that was originally planned to include in Nier: Automata are given how authentic-looking the cathedral and its surroundings are. It contains vocal acting, cinematics, and the works—pretty very sophisticated for a mod, contrary to what some members of the community initially thought.
According to Kotaku user Meowsandstuff on Discord, the Nier modification community is currently working on mocking up the secret cathedral to see if it can be incorporated into the game. Though it is a continuing process, here’s a sneak peek.
Meowsandstuff stated, “I had only started work upon that earlier in order to envision what the church might have looked like. It’s probable that the way I’ve modeled it won’t work right away with Nier’s engine because it’s missing crucial components like texturing in new places.
Sadfutago’s use of a PlayStation 4 has been established, and it appears that he is running Nier: Automata edition 1.00, which hasn’t gotten any upgrades in the five years since its release and should therefore contain every one of the competition’s original data.
The name comes next Gamers of Nier initially realized that the Japanese word “Futago” means “twins.” That would also fit the narrative of Nier: Automata, which includes siblings as part of its depressing storyline. But in screenshots sent to Kotaku by Azura, the participant in the Nier mod Discord, Sadfutago refuted the assertion: Someone pointed that out, and Sadfutago replied, ” A clan is not a Futago.

The Defense of
It’s more difficult to prosecute a positive than a positive, so no one can say definitively, but the proof that there’s something off about this whole situation has been painstakingly compiled inside a 14-page Google Spreadsheet, commonly credited as being pushed by Meowsandstuff. He referred to it as a “collective effort” for me. It even has a spreadsheet listing the precise instances Sadfutago has posted on Reddit, along with information on how irregular those postings have been.
“Please need not push people for information or otherwise, whether Sadfutago is lying or not!” reads a letter just at top of the page in bold type. Considering that many residents of the town think Sadfutago might be a kid, seriously, people, heed that line.
A portion of the paper focuses on visual inconsistencies, although there is considerable controversy around the character model in the footage, who closely resembles a “Yorha” character model from Nier: Replicant Buncha Numbers from the previous year—right down to the figure’s bracelet. For certain people, like Azura, those and other references indicate that the game’s developers slipped something into it. But to some who think the whole affair is a fake, it’s evidence of clever deception.
The fact that Yoko Taro would create a hidden place with more references is quite understandable, according to Vats3. Anyone who is familiar with Yoko Taro is aware of this, therefore a modder would undoubtedly exploit it to attempt to make they are fake seem more credible.
Given that Sadfutago is reportedly using an older version of the game, they would have access to information that players of more recent popular games wouldn’t have. Unpatched games frequently lead to amazing discoveries in the gaming community. Players of Fear of the Tomb Raider’s unpatched copy version in 2018 discovered a completely alternative ending that wasn’t intended to be used in the retail edition. But there are still unanswered questions regarding Nier: Automata. According to Meowsandstuff, “one booster pack evaluation copy had been viewed through with no indication of the secret.”
The next passage is the most cynical: Some have speculated that the announcement of a Nier: Automata version for the Nintendo Switch in October may just be a marketing ploy. This conspiracy hypothesis is fueled in part by Sadfutago’s continuous Reddit posting, in which he appears to be reiterating what other users have already said about the discovery. Others now think that possibly this is an instance of anyone remembering to sign from out their account while attempting to pass as someone else, notwithstanding the possibility that there is a language barrier. If so, perhaps this really is a digital campaign after all. But we are unable to be certain
