The PlayStation 5 has received Sony’s most recent system update, updating it to version 23.01-07.20.00. Sony has officially admitted that this is a regular update without a clear focus, although it should bring about some exciting enhancements to the PS5 experience.
The PlayStation 5, which has been on the market for more than 2.5 years, is still receiving monthly updates that enhance the console’s usability. Version 23.01-07.00.00, released at the beginning of March, was the most recent significant update for the PlayStation 5.
With that upgrade, the PS5 received new capabilities, including the full integration of Discord voice chat, voice commands for saving video clips, data transfer across PS5s, and 1440p enhancements.

Updates since then have concentrated on minor fixes for problems with the 23.01-07.00.00 upgrade, such as a fix for Discord that was causing disconnections and display issues in the PS5 Game Library.
However, the most recent patch for PS5 is not the main focus. Overall, it’s a step up for the system, even though the update concentrates more on overall enhancements than anything specific. Three updates are made to the PS5’s system software in version 23.01-07.20.00.
The PS5’s operating system will operate more smoothly and crash or have faults less frequently thanks to Sony’s “improved system software performance and stability,” the first improvement. Users of the PS5 might never notice this adjustment, but perhaps that indicates it is effective.
The two further updates to version 23.01-07.20.00 are distinct. The second adjustment is that Sony “improved the messages and usability on some screens,” although it is not specified which screens or whose messages have been changed.
Users are unlikely to notice the changes because they are so few. The DualSense Edge wireless controller is upgraded in the third PS5 system update for “improved stability.” It’s unclear what adjustments were explicitly made, although the DualSense Edge has always had compatibility concerns when used for PC gaming.
Even if the latest PS5 system update may not be very significant, it’s great to see Sony keeping up the monthly release of these upgrades.

The bigger promotions are more exciting since they introduce new PS5 capabilities, but the regular PS5 updates improve the gaming experience and make the device a better overall platform. The PS5 of today surpasses the PS5 of yesterday.
The release date and potential features of the PS5’s next significant system update are unknown. Since the PS5 is a few years old, essential updates will probably become less frequent. A PlayStation 5 Pro console could also be available soon, shifting Sony’s attention. Later this year, expect to learn more about upcoming PS5 improvements.
