Here’s a beautiful surprise from Nintendo Direct: a rework of the original Metroid Prime for the Switch has been released unexpectedly. The aptly titled Metroid Prime Remastered graphics have improved significantly, but the game’s dual-stick controls are much more straightforward.
Players used to the first-person shooter genre from the past twenty years of consoles will feel more at home with the first-person controls. However, a GameCube-like scheme and other control alternatives are available.
You can get the remaster digitally through the Nintendo eShop for the low price of $40. You’ll have to wait until February 22nd to get a paper copy.

There has been no word on remasters of the other Prime titles, and this is not the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4. For the time being, Metroid Dread is the most logical option to carry on Samus Aran’s exploits on the Switch.

If you discount the unofficial GameCube tweaks, this is the first time a Metroid first-person shooter has been playable on a portable platform. It might do the trick if you’re looking for anything other than a 2D platformer to play on your commute.
