Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has revealed the crazy, chaotic Animal Crossing-style option that I’ve always wanted to see. Yakuza developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio really stole the show at today’s Xbox Partner Preview event with a teaser for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth’s new Dondoko Island feature, which allows you to climb aboard a dolphin and ride off to greener pastures. “Sometimes even the yakuza need a breather,” the studio says, and I couldn’t agree more.
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth New Trailer
On Dondoko Island, you can fish, gather materials, buy and craft furniture, tamper with the island’s design and infrastructure, design your dream home inside and out, hang out with locals, host L’aus, and impress everyone with your guitar skills, and generally chill the hell out, Yakuza style.
You can also make pals with exotic birds, ram-headed men, and “strange creatures.” Essentially, this is the Animal Crossing-style game I’ve always desired. I liked Animal Crossing: New Horizons and, like virtually everyone else in the world, played the heck out of it throughout 2020, but playing it today makes me nauseated with thoughts of quarantine, Zoom call hangouts, and whipped coffee.
Dondoko Island has none of those negative connections and all of the wacky charm of the Yakuza series that I adore. With Dondoko Island just a dolphin ride away, I’m afraid I’ll never finish the campaign, but thankfully, our Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth preview reveals the campaign is a total banger, so I’m not too concerned.
