Kerbal Space Program Mods: The Kerbal Space Program (KSP) was created by the Mexican studio Squad and is available for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Green aliens with humanoid features called “Kerbals” work as the game’s crew and crew members. You can perform real-world orbital operations like Hohmann transfer orbits and orbital rendezvous thanks to the game’s accurate simulation of the mechanics of space travel.
On June 24, 2011, the first digital edition of the Kerbal Space Program was launched on Squad’s Kerbal Space Program shop, and on March 20, 2013, it entered Steam’s early access program. On April 27, 2015, the game left beta and became available to the general public. Mods made by players may be implemented into Kerbal Space Program.
The squad has supported and integrated many well-known add-ons. Scott Manley has drawn attention from the likes of NASA and the European Space Agency, as well as United Launch Alliance CEO Tory Bruno, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, and Rocket Lab CEO Peter Beck.
The #Artemis mission inspired our team to fly our own recreation in KSP2. We’d be lying if we said we made it to orbit on our first try.
From all of us at #KSP2 to all of our friends @NASAArtemis there is no shame is reverting to VAB ❤️ pic.twitter.com/WReF3N4uRB

In May 2017, Squad said that video game publisher Take-Two Interactive had acquired the game, with the promise of financial backing and assistance in maintaining the game’s console and PC iterations. Take-Two Interactive’s publishing arm, Private Division, published an enhanced edition for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in January 2018, and for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in September 2021.
Making History, published in March 2018, and Breaking Ground, released in May 2019, are two of the game’s expansions available for purchase as downloadable content. Kerbal Space Program 2 is scheduled for release in 2023.
Kerbal Space Program Mods Gameplay
The player takes charge of a space program run by the Kerbals, a race of little green humanoids who have built a spaceport on their home planet of Kerbin known as the Kerbal Space Center (KSC). From here, players may launch rockets, airplanes, spaceplanes, rovers, and other objects into space using the components at their disposal.
Once the spacecraft has been constructed, players may launch it from the Kennedy Space Center’s launch pad or runway in an effort to execute player-set or game-directed missions without failing completely or catastrophically (such as lack of fuel or structural failure). A Stability Assist System (SAS) helps players maintain their rocket’s orientation while they navigate in three dimensions.
Spacecraft may reach orbit or even go to other celestial bodies so long as they have enough propulsion and fuel. Switching to map mode reveals the player’s vehicle’s orbit or trajectory, along with the location and movement of other spacecraft and planetary bodies.
Information such as the ascending and descending nodes, target direction, and relative velocity to the target may be seen by aiming at planets or other vessels for the purposes of rendezvous and docking. Players may access maneuver nodes while in map mode to pre-plan trajectory adjustments, which aids in the precise planning of burns.
Objectives for missions (both those set by the player and those given as “contracts”) include things like climbing to a certain height, leaving the atmosphere, entering a stable orbit, landing on a specific planet, rescuing stranded Kerbals, capturing asteroids, and constructing space stations and surface bases. On the game’s forums, players may test one other’s spaceships in air combat tournaments using modifications, or set goals like “visiting all five moons of Jool” (the game’s Jupiter analog).
In Kerbal Space Program, players take command of virtual astronauts who may engage in spacewalks and other extraterrestrial pursuits (EVA). Similar to the Manned Maneuvering Unit used by NASA, Kerbals may utilize the propellant system in their EVA suit to move about spacecraft and space stations when on EVA.
Landing legs, wheels, and parachutes may all be serviced or deployed/repacked during EVA. Collecting data from scientific studies is another option available to Kerbals who want to use the capsule’s storage space. A Kerbal may plant a flag or collect a surface sample on any rocky planet or moon during an EVA.
We can replicate and improve upon the achievements of past missions like the Apollo program, the Mars Science Laboratory rover, and the International Space Station. The Mk3 Command Pod is modeled on the Apollo command and service module, while the Probodobodyne Stayputnik is a riff on the Soviet probe Sputnik in name, function, and design.
Mods may be downloaded and installed by players to add new planets, ships, weapons, rocket components, and missions, such as completing tasks in a realistic solar system. Some modifications may almost entirely automate flying, while others include informative displays displaying craft and orbital data such as delta-v and orbital inclination. As a result of its popularity, modifications have been included in the game. Resources may be mined and refined into a fuel, an idea borrowed from a popular mod.
From furthest away to closest to the Sun, the game’s primary celestial bodies are Moho, Eve, Kerbin, Duna, Dres, Jool, and Eeloo (respectively analogs of Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Ceres, Jupiter, and Pluto). Through collective tweaks, this planetary system may grow to include many more planets and perhaps even new suns.
A captured asteroid named Gilly orbits around Eve; Kerbin has two moons named Mun and Minmus; Duna has a single moon called Ike; and Jool has five moons named Laythe (an ocean moon dotted with islands), Vall (an ice moon), Tylo (a large Kerbin-sized moon), Bop (an outermost captured asteroid), and Pol (an innermost captured asteroid). Only Laythe’s moon has an atmosphere and liquid water. None of the planets Moho, Dres, or Eeloo have their own natural satellites.
