Crossplay compatibility will be included in Tekken 8, allowing players from many platforms to connect and participate in the game’s online multiplayer modes.
Is Tekken 8 Crossplay?
When asked about Tekken 8 crossplay, Harada stated a lot on Twitter. In addition to confirming that the game will feature cross-platform play, the game director revealed why there was no cross-platform play in 2017’s Tekken 7.
We’re confident that fans will be ecstatic with this announcement, which confirms both PC and console (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S) gamers will be able to compete. “Crossplay? “Of course,” Harada said on Twitter.
Crossplay? Of course I will.
BTW
When the previous generation consoles were released, I had already proposed crossplay between the two platformers. However, at that time, they were at odds with each other over their mutual interests (and P2P security issue) & repeatedly refused. https://t.co/I8b38YfePh— Katsuhiro Harada (@Harada_TEKKEN) April 9, 2023
As previously stated, Harada noted the lack of crossplay on Tekken 7 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in the same tweet. According to the game director, he actually suggested crossplay between the “two” platforms (most likely referring to the PS4 and Xbox One). Still, Sony and Microsoft could not agree on crossplay at the time.
In a subsequent tweet, Harada clarified that while Sony and Microsoft stated that they were open to allowing crossplay, it wasn’t always straightforward for third-party titles. Cross-platform gaming between PlayStation and Xbox is considerably easier, albeit there are still specific barriers.

“Remember when they announced they were open to crossplay a few years ago?” wrote the producer. “However, in reality, they did not actively support third parties at the time, and the barriers were quite high.” There are still some issues to work out, but it is doable.”
Tekken 8 was announced in 2018 for next-generation consoles and PCs, and it will be “built from the ground up for next-gen platforms” utilizing Epic’s Unreal Engine 5. A release date has yet to be revealed, although, as stated in our preview article, an impending release appears to be a long way off.
“The changes to the visual design aren’t the only major ones coming to Tekken 8 (Paul Phoenix’s change in hairstyle remains another obvious change)”, Kai Powell said in the preview for the game. “All new comeback mechanics and strategies to gain an advantage are coming to Tekken 8 via a system derived from the Rage system introduced in Tekken 6. The addition of recoverable or white gauge health may be new to mainline Tekken (excluding the red health from the Tekken Tag Tournament offshoot). Still, it has been a prevalent feature in Street Fighter titles and other trademark fighting game entries for more than two decades.”
