At the Microsoft Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on Sunday, Team Cherry’s long-awaited follow-up to Hollow Knight, titled Hollow Knight: Silksong, was officially revealed to the public for the first time. Silksong’s expanded gameplay was demonstrated, and the developer stated that the game would be available on day one for Game Pass subscribers. However, the development firm has not yet provided a release date for the 2D platforming action game even though it has been highly delayed.
Despite this, Xbox corporate vice president Sarah Bond stated afterwards that the games demonstrated during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase would be available for purchase within the following year.

The acclaimed Dark Souls-inspired Metroidvania packed with insect people, Hollow Knight, was released in 2017, and its sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, was released in 2018. In contrast, Silksong focuses on a new protagonist named Hornet, who appeared as both an ally and an adversary to the Knight in the first game. Players take control of Silksong in Hollow Knight: Silksong, allowing them to explore a new realm and use brand new abilities.

Silksong was initially planned by the developer Team Cherry to be supplemental material for the first iteration of Hollow Knight. Still, the project scope was expanded significantly due to the game’s success. “Almost from the beginning, Hornet’s adventure was meant to take place in a new land,” the developer stated. “However, as we dove in, it quickly became too large and unique to stay a DLC, as was initially planned.”
2017 saw the release of the original version of Hollow Knight on Windows PC. After some time, Team Cherry ported the game to more platforms, including Linux, Mac, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Kickstarter was the original platform via which funding for Hollow Knight was collected. Players who contributed to the game’s fundraising effort will have Hollow Knight: Silksong made available at no cost.
