GTA 6‘s publisher, Take-Two Interactive, is cutting jobs and canceling projects to save money. They plan to reduce their annual expenses by $165 million but will face charges of up to $200 million for canceling projects and employee severance.
Earlier, the CEO said there were no plans for layoffs, making this change surprising. Despite the huge success of GTA 5, which has made billions since 2013, Take-Two is still making cuts.
While GTA 6 is likely safe from cancellation, the reduced workforce could slow down its development. There are concerns it might be delayed from 2025 to 2026.
Take-Two recently bought Gearbox, the company behind Borderlands, for $460 million. GTA 6 is expected to be a massive success, but the industry is seeing many layoffs after the pandemic, affecting companies like Microsoft, EA, Sony, Riot, and more.
