An influential member of Rockstar Games and Grand Theft Auto’s development teams has updated us on the release date and reveal trailer for GTA 6. Fortunately, they are not as far off as you may assume.
The bad news is that we still don’t have concrete dates for either, probably because Rockstar Games doesn’t have concrete dates in mind. Both can be accommodated within their temporal constraints, but this is not the same as a set time of day being determined.

Whatever the case may be, the next entry in the GTA series will be disclosed this year, most likely during the holiday window, and released sometime during Christmas 2024, according to the insider Tez2, who has proven credible and reputable several times. But, the insider cautions that Rockstar Software may need to slice the game and release the pieces as free DLC later to meet these dates.
“Their aimed-always-changing-not-set-in-stone deadline is holiday 2024. Which has been pushed back multiple times in the past few years. Unfortunately, it could slip into early 2025 as well,” says the Tez2. “Speaking of which, most companies are returning with a “forced return to office” policy to revert back to pre-pandemic days. Activision Blizzard is already met with internal backlash. Rockstar is no different. The debate and consequences of the policy are a whole other topic. With almost the entirety of the workforce in office, Rockstar could be firmer about an announcement this year. Yet, losing work talent could very much lead to more delays.”
This insider then reveals more: “An announcement seems inevitable to me this year. The higher management probably can’t afford another postponement of the holidays in 2025/26. It may be more manageable for management to cut more content out of the game and bundle it into DLCs to release at a later date.”
Grand Theft Auto VI’s release date has not been announced, but it is expected that the PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox One X will all be able to play it. A PC version is not anticipated to be available at launch, and neither the PlayStation 4 nor the Xbox One will be able to play it at all.
