Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising Update 1.21 has finally arrived, much to the delight of gaming fans. This highly anticipated version contains a number of new game changes, major bug fixes, and noticeable enhancements.
Whether you are a new player or have been playing for a long, this update is designed to improve your game experience.
One of the update’s primary characteristics is its cross-platform compatibility. Whether you play on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, you may now experience the redesigned version.

Patch notes for the Version 1.21 update coming Feb 19 (PT) have been posted to the official site! In addition to the #NieR:Automata tie-in DLC character, 2B, new features, adjustments, and bug fixes are on the way!

New DLC Character: 2B
- 2B has been added as a playable character, allowing players to control her in the game for an enhanced gaming experience.
- Players now have the option to customize their profile with 2B’s image as a Premium Avatar.
- Additionally, various additional features and content related to 2B have been added. These include a music track, weapon skins, badges, titles, card design, sticker, and Figure Studio poses and expressions.
- However, players will first need to unlock 2B as a playable character in order to access these features, with the exception of stickers.
- To unlock 2B, players can find her in the Rupie Shop under Special Content, where they can purchase her using in-game currency.
- Please note that purchases made via the Special Content tab will not come with a bonus serial code.
- For players using the PS5 or PS4 version of the game, a 2B Purchase Bonus has been added to the Serial Codes screen in the Options menu, providing additional perks and rewards.
Battles and Online Matches:
- The input delay in the PS5 version has been reduced, resulting in more responsive and smoother gameplay.
- Oceania has been added as a selectable server in online Ranked and Casual Matches, benefiting players from that region by providing them with a smoother online experience.
- Players now have the ability to change their Network Region setting in the System Settings menu, granting them more control over their online matchmaking.
- A network quality indicator, known as RTT (Round Trip Time), has been introduced to the pop-up confirmation prior to Ranked and Casual Matches. This indicator provides crucial information about the network quality before entering a match, ensuring players have a better understanding of their connection.
- The previous basic antenna icon used to indicate network quality has been replaced with the more accurate RTT millisecond value, enhancing the accuracy of the information provided.
Weekly Challenges:
- Weekly challenges have been implemented, providing players with the opportunity to earn rupies by completing these challenges. The challenges are updated on a weekly basis, offering a fresh and engaging gameplay experience.
- Players can now view all the currently available challenges in one place, making it easier to track their progress and plan their gameplay accordingly.
- The player’s voice language setting will now be reflected for the opponent character in online matches, adding to the immersion and overall enjoyment of gameplay.
- An issue has been fixed where the player’s Top Versus Rank would not affect the starting Versus Rank of DLC characters. Starting with Version 1.21, all new DLC characters will now start two ranks below the player’s Top Versus Rank, as originally intended.
Other Fixes:
- An issue where an opponent using Lunalu in an online match would display their character level as 0 has been resolved, ensuring accurate character level display.
- Another issue where crossplay settings and matchmaking preferences were not being correctly reflected when Casual and Ranked Match entry settings were set to Same
- Platform has been fixed, ensuring players’ preferences are accurately applied.
An issue causing an application error when inputting certain keys on a keyboard on certain stages has been resolved, resulting in a smoother gameplay experience without errors and interruptions.
Story:
- An issue during chapter 79 of Story Mode, where using certain skills would cause the battle to progress abnormally, has been fixed. This ensures that players can progress through the story mode without encountering any unexpected issues.
Online Lobby:
- Players now have the ability to equip Weapon Cutouts in the online lobby, enhancing their customization options. Weapon Cutouts can be changed from the Customize Avatar menu, allowing players to personalize their online lobby experience.
- A cutout of 2B has been added to the lobby, giving players the opportunity to further customize their online lobby and showcase their love for the newly added character.
Profile:
- An issue with character card design Avatar Belial 3 has been fixed, ensuring its correct display and removing any visual inconsistencies.
Partners:
- Playback conditions for certain Partner voices have been adjusted and new conditions have been added, resulting in an improved overall experience while using Partners. This ensures that players can fully enjoy the partnership dynamics and interactions within the game.
Avatar Select Screen:
- An option to see the number of obtained and unobtained Weapon Cutouts on the Weapon Cutouts selection screen has been added, enabling players to easily manage and organize their collection of Weapon Cutouts for convenient customization.
Draw Tickets:
- New Weapon Cutouts have been added, providing players with even more options for customization in the game. This allows players to further personalize their gameplay experience and express their individual style.
Others:
- Several issues have been fixed, including one where looking at the player’s profile from the Match History screen caused the game to freeze or lose focus, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted gameplay experience.
- A display issue with item names in the Gift Crate has been resolved, ensuring accurate and clear item identification.
- Trophy names have been added for Portuguese (Brazil), English (United Kingdom), Spanish (Latin America), and French (Canada) languages in the PS5 version, improving accessibility and inclusivity for players across different regions.
- Various text bugs have been fixed, resulting in consistent and error-free text throughout the game.
- Minor bug fixes and improvements have been applied, further optimizing the game for a seamless and enjoyable experience.
Battle and Character Adjustments:
The following updates primarily focus on bug fixes and improvements to the overall gameplay experience:
System:
- The reach for close-range standing attacks has been extended for some characters, reducing the likelihood of them missing and improving their effectiveness.
- The distance that triggers the Raging Strike evade animation has been extended, allowing it to activate even if the player evades just outside of the Raging Strike hit range. This ensures that players have more flexibility and responsiveness during combat.
- Input buffering has been added for certain button inputs during crouching, enabling inputs to be buffered during crouching hitstop, resulting in smoother gameplay and more consistent execution.
- The leniency of input buffering upon wake-up, landing after mid-air recovery, and grounded recovery has been extended by two frames, providing players with more control and responsiveness during these crucial moments.
- An issue where pushing the block button simultaneously upon landing after a jump allowed the player to attack 1 frame early has been fixed, ensuring fair and balanced gameplay mechanics.
- A bug where the damage buff for technical inputs would still be applied after performing a skill with a technical input, followed by a skill with a simple input, has been resolved. This addresses an exploit and ensures that gameplay mechanics function as intended.
Character-Specific Adjustments:
Several characters have received specific adjustments and bug fixes to improve their balance and gameplay experience:
Lancelot:
- Some animations for Lancelot’s crouching attacks have been fixed, ensuring their accuracy and effectiveness.
- Animations for Weissflügel have also been fixed, while maintaining the original battle properties, resulting in a more refined and visually pleasing combat experience.
Percival:
- An issue where the Anzünden skill would repeat its cooldown after the bed of flames wears off has been fixed, ensuring proper cooldown mechanics and balancing.
Ladiva:
- An issue preventing the SBA gauge from filling during a clash after guard point is activated against a projectile while using Headbutt of Love has been fixed. The SBA gauge will now fill properly in such situations, ensuring consistent gameplay mechanics.
Ferry:
- A bug causing skills and Skybound Arts to go in the wrong direction if Spectral Dive was used right before landing has been fixed, ensuring accurate skill execution and improving gameplay consistency.
Zeta:
- Zeta can no longer block midair until she lands after performing the Jump + skill and Knee Assault (Rhapsody Follow-up) skill, ensuring fair and balanced combat mechanics.
- The combo limit for Spear of Arvess (Fall) when connecting with midair opponents is now static, regardless of the height at which the skill connects, providing consistent gameplay mechanics and balancing.
- The “Invincible!” pop-up, which was only meant to be displayed during the activation cutscene of Resolute Strike (Midair), has been removed. This improves the visual clarity and eliminates any unnecessary distractions during gameplay.
Narmaya:
- An issue causing Butterfly Stance to activate incorrectly after countering a close-range standing or crouching attack has been fixed. This ensures that Narmaya’s skills and abilities function as intended and provides a more consistent gameplay experience.
Cagliostro:
- A bug where Cagliostro would warp to the wrong location if her opponent turned around while she was warping using the Spare Body skill has been resolved, resulting in accurate and seamless skill execution.
- Cagliostro can no longer block midair until she lands after using Spare Body (Midair), ensuring fair and balanced combat mechanics.
- Cagliostro now appears in front of her opponent when their back is against the wall, improving positioning during battles and optimizing gameplay strategies.
- An issue causing attacks from Cagliostro’s opponents to whiff despite hitbox overlap under specific conditions has been fixed, ensuring accurate hit detection and enhancing gameplay consistency.
Seox:
- Seox can no longer block midair until he lands after using Empty Hand (Hold), ensuring fair and balanced combat mechanics and promoting strategic gameplay.
Siegfried:
- Siegfried’s hitbox when connecting midair with Orkan has been enlarged, reducing the chances of the final hit whiffing and improving the overall effectiveness of the skill.
Grimnir:
- Grimnir can no longer block midair until he lands after using Voidlight Erasure, ensuring fair and balanced combat mechanics.
- To resolve an issue affecting the SBA gauge when using Wind Crest (Midair) just before landing, Grimnir will now not land until the skill finishes, ensuring proper gauge management and balancing.
- An upper limit has been set to the number of midair Gale Dashes Grimnir can perform during Grace of the Radiant, ensuring the proper depletion of Wind Crests and balancing the gameplay.
Nier:
- Skills, plus skills, and ultimate skills (except Misfortune) can now be blocked while midair for Nier, ensuring consistent combat mechanics.
- Several bugs related to skills and skybound arts going in the wrong direction after using Pain and Drowned in an Exquisite and Eternal Adieu have been fixed, improving skill execution and consistency.
- If Nier jumps right after the guard point activates, Death will no longer mimic her, resulting in more accurate and immersive gameplay.
- The SBA gauge penalty will now properly activate if Nier cancels the counter animation with an action such as a throw, ensuring fair play and balanced gameplay mechanics.
Avatar Belial:
- The “Invincible!” pop-up during the activation cutscene of Diafthora (Midair) has been removed, ensuring visual clarity and eliminating unnecessary distractions during gameplay.
Lucilius:
- An issue with the weapon’s animation effect remaining on screen after a follow-up attack to Orbital Resonance has been resolved, ensuring a visually polished and consistent gameplay experience.
