Experience the Ultimate Racing Simulation: Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.29 Adds Grand Valley and GT Sophy

Version 1.29 of Gran Turismo 7 is now available, and it’s the biggest update in the game’s 12-month history, adding a number of game-changing innovations and a slew of new content, including a familiar face from previous games.

The update is substantial, clocking in at 7.3GB on the PlayStation 5 and 7.6GB on the PlayStation 4, and its size reflects the many significant improvements it introduces. There’s a little something for everyone in version 1.29, but PlayStation 5 owners should consider themselves very fortunate.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.29 Grand Valley New Tracks

We could have gone with any number of major updates, but we’ve settled on bringing back the classic Grand Valley circuit. There are four possible configurations of the track to choose from:

• Highway 1 in the Grand Valley
• Inverse Route 1 Via Grand Valley
• South Grand Valley
• A turnaround in the Grand Valley: South

As the game’s longest track since its inception, the monster race resort has been with us since the beginning (aside from Test Course). The Grand Valley 300km endurance race was one of the most important and difficult events held there.

Grand Valley, however, did not make the jump to GT Sport besides as a symbol of the East short course, like all the other original courses from the PS1/2/3 period. Its inclusion in GT7 means that, along with High-Speed Ring, Trial Mountain, and Deep Forest, it is the fourth of the original GT1 tracks to make a comeback.

Grand Valley, on the other hand, looks to have undergone some sort of facelift, with the route apparently now including sections of the Big Sur Coast Highway along California 1. Both the main route and the short track have a similar plan, albeit with some significant topographical changes.

It’s also important to note the name change, which appears to have occurred late in the production process. The East short course is now the South circuit at what was formerly known as Grand Valley Speedway, which is now known as Grand Valley Highway-1.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.29 New Features: Team GT Sophy Races As One

New Gran Turismo Sophy AI, a machine-learning AI in development by Sony AI since 2021, has also been added to the update, along with a special Race Together event for PlayStation 5 players.

In essence, Sony AI shifted Sophy’s goal from sheer speed to becoming the ideal racing driver, despite the fact that Sophy was built to be as quick as possible across a certain race track. Sony’s AI agent defeated a team of the world’s finest Gran Turismo drivers, demonstrating both a World Series-winning pace and good racecraft achieved through encouraging behaviors that avoided contact and dirty racing.

Race Together pits you against the AI in a series of races, either in a group of five or a straight one-on-one. You won’t have to be a GT world champion to enjoy this game; Sophy’s weaker equipment will slow her down, but you’ll still have to work hard to beat what we believe to be the most humanlike AI ever implemented in a racing game.

While this is a rather minor addition at the moment, and it will only be available until March 31st, more GT Sophy events are planned for the future, and the game may be expanded in the near future.

Version 1.29 of Gran Turismo 7 PlayStation VR2 Adds Additional Functionality

With the release of version 1.29 on February 22nd, compatibility for the PlayStation VR2 gear has arrived in Gran Turismo.

Gran Turismo 7 supports PlayStation VR 2 in all game modes except for the local two-player split screen, in contrast to Gran Turismo Sport on the original PlayStation VR. All of the single-player and multiplayer modes may be experienced in full virtual reality, with an effective 4K resolution and a reprojected 120 frames per second.

Aside from the standard features, the VR headset also has access to the VR Showroom, which features a number of unique studio scenarios allowing you to explore and enter any car (with the exception of a select few Vision GT vehicles lacking an interior and the Toyota SF-R) in full virtual reality.

Once again, the earlier consoles don’t work with the new VR2 system, therefore this is a PS5-exclusive function. In addition, you’ll need the VR2 hardware itself.

Update 1.29 Adds New Cars to Gran Turismo 7

In patch 1.29, five additional vehicles, mostly classics but also including a mirrored pair of Vision Gran Turismo vehicles, are made available to all players.

The Italdesign Exeneo Vision GT is offered in both off-road and street configurations. From what we can see, the cars are identical; both have an impressive V10 hybrid powerplant. But, the Offroad version has a slightly higher suspension setup and wider tires to handle the rigors of dirt racing.

In addition to the Italdesign, there are two more legendary examples of their respective genres, a road car, and a race vehicle, as well as a homologation special that falls somewhere in the middle.

This is a Honda RA272 from 1965, a racing machine. Richie Ginther of the United States won the season-ending Mexican Grand Pris in Honda’s second F1 car, an evolution of the RA271 from 1964.

The Citroen DS21 Pallas from 1970 is a much more subdued alternative. The updated DS, nicknamed Déesse after the French term for a goddess, is consistently ranked high on lists of the most attractive automobiles of all time and provides a luxurious ride quality courtesy of its hydropneumatic suspension.

Leaving us with the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, one of the best 911s ever built. The Carrera RS 2.7 was created with a 2.7-liter version of the legendary flat-six, considerable use of lightweight materials, and enormous, flared arches to accept 11-inch wide racing wheels in order to achieve homologation for Group 4 racing.

Miscellaneous Alterations in Gran Turismo 7 Version 1.29

There are now six new races in the update, five of which take place at the brand new Grand Valley circuit (the American Sunday Cup 600, Gr.1 Prototype Series, Historic Sports Car Masters, Japanese Clubman Cup 550, and World Touring Car 600). Each item in the Café Menu book will be locked until the player reaches the required level.

Moreover, there are two additional Extra Menu Books that can be used to complete the Car Collection requirement. Acquiring the new Honda RA272, the Honda S800, and the McLaren MP4/4 is necessary to complete a Honda Motorsports book and get a Honda Super Formula SF19. A five-star roulette ticket is a reward for reading the Porsche 911 Carrera RS book, which only requires knowledge of the 901, 964, and 993 generations of the automobile.

Scapes have been updated with new features, including a Drift Stage mode for photographing drifting vehicles. As an added bonus, a comprehensive guide to setting up the ideal drift photo is included. It will be possible to tilt the camera up and down on some Scapes, giving you more creative control over your shots.

In addition to the 13 new Real Car paintwork in the GT Auto section, the GT Cafe also features a variety of new car designer activities. PlayStation 5 DualSense users can now experience engine start-up sounds and vibrations when swapping vehicles in the garage.

Although it is not always made clear, we anticipate the availability of new engine swaps. All of them will be found in the Gran Turismo 7 engine switch thread here on GTPlanet, and they will be found soon.

Also, several bugs have been fixed, including the infamous many other difficulties and a freezing bug that affected users of the Fanatec wheel.
