Following the release of Version 3.8, Genshin Impact encountered a significant bug that impacted PlayStation console players. The game regularly receives updates introducing fresh characters and story content, typically monthly.
However, developer HoYoverse may occasionally alter its usual update schedule to address such issues. Version 3.8 of Genshin Impact featured the new Veluriyam Mirage area and the Secret Summer Paradise event, introduced on July 5.
Within Veluriyam Mirage, players can uncover treasures, engage in mini-games, and complete limited-time quests before Version 4.0 is released. The update also allows players to summon beloved characters like Klee and Eula before the new Fontaine characters, who will take the spotlight in Version 4.0 later this summer.
Regrettably, the recent update for Genshin Impact also brought along a PlayStation-specific bug, which persisted for the past week.
The official Twitter account of Genshin Impact has recently announced the release of a new update, specifically designed to fix a significant visual bug causing issues on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game.
PlayStation® Online Update Notice
Dear Travelers,
A version update for PS4™ and PS5™ was released at 2023/07/14 15:00 (UTC+8). This was to fix an issue where the screen would go black after “WARNING: READ BEFORE PLAYING” appeared, preventing users from launching the game on… pic.twitter.com/HipH9HwdId— Genshin Impact (@GenshinImpact) July 14, 2023
Before this update, certain players encountered a black screen problem on HDR-enabled PlayStation consoles right after the warning text appeared, preventing them from playing Genshin Impact following the installation of the Version 3.8 update.
Thankfully, HoYoverse swiftly responded to the situation by rolling out the 3.8.1 update, effectively resolving the bug.
The 3.8.1 update of Genshin Impact is specifically tailored for the PS4 and PS5 versions to address the HDR bug, as it only affects those platforms. Despite the update’s installation, some users have reported lingering issues within the game.
For instance, switching accounts can still lead to game crashes, and players in co-op mode cannot obtain Mora rewards from the “Capturing Light and Shadow” and “Returning Curios” world quests.
The resolution for these Mora rewards is planned for a future update, as the Veluriyam Mirage area will no longer be available in Version 4.0. While the update has successfully tackled the pressing HDR problem on supported consoles and displays, further bug fixes are expected in future Genshin Impact updates.
Players who encounter any issues are encouraged to continue reporting them on HoYoLab and HoYoverse’s official social media channels for the game. Genshin Impact Version 4.0 is anticipated to be released this August, with HoYoverse likely hosting a Special Program to reveal new content in the coming days.
As usual, patch notes for significant updates will be provided by HoYoverse, giving players more insight into bug fixes and additional features as the development team shares information with the community.
Genshin Impact is available for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, and PS5, with a Nintendo Switch version currently in development.
