BioWare has confirmed a small number of crucial details about Dragon Age 4. Players will go to the far north of Thedas to explore the huge Tevinter Imperium, ruled by a mage upper-class that isn’t hesitant to employ blood magic and enslavement to secure its dominance. They’ll be facing up against the Dread Wolf of Dalish folklore, Solas, who has returned to tear down the Veil he erected between our world and the magical realm of the Fade.
Like other BioWare games, Dragon Age has a dedicated fanbase. The concept behind Dragon Age 4 is intriguing, but the game won’t succeed until the supporting cast is equally engaging. Some of the characters and the organizations they represent have been strongly suggested by the marketing materials that have been issued thus far. To date, these are all the potential companions for Dragon Age 4 that BioWare has teased.

To wit: Varric Tethras
BioWare has only confirmed the return of one of the previous companion characters, Varric Tethras. Many Dragon Age fans probably aren’t going to be surprised by this. Since Dragon Age 2, the sardonic Dwarf Varric has been a staple of the series.
Varric says in the Game Awards 2020 teaser for Dragon Age 4 that we’ve got your back. To paraphrase a popular saying, I’ve got your back. Dreadful monsters, such as the Dread Wolf, dragons, and Darkspawn. Now that a new protagonist is in charge, Varric may be an important link between the Dwarf and the Dread Wolf, who both followed Solas throughout the events of the Inquisition.
As the players left off in Dragon Age 2’s city-state of Kirkwall, Varric had just been elected Viscount. Fans should anticipate Varric and his crossbow Bianca to make a triumphant comeback in Dragon Age 4, however, whether he will still have that title during the events of the following game is unknown.
Davrin
At Gamescom 2020, BioWare released an official behind-the-scenes teaser clip for Dragon Age 4, confirming the existence of a character named Davrin. Ike Amadi, Davrin’s voice actor, was shown in the teaser recording his lines.
While it hasn’t been stated definitively that this character is a follower, it’s quite improbable that he wouldn’t be one given the prominence he was given in the teaser. Some fundamental aspects of his personality were also exposed.
As Amadi proclaims, for the Wardens!, Davrin’s role as a Grey Warden in Dragon Age 4 might be fascinating. The last battle of the First Blight, in which the first Grey Wardens defeated the first Archdemon, took place on Tevinter’s southern Silent Plains.
Despite the Dread Wolf’s wanderings through the Fade, the local Dalish tribes maintained communication with him. A prominent location on the map labeled Solas suggests that it may play a significant role, as the Veil is likely to be permeable in a region where so much blood has been spilled.
Solas’s scheme has the potential to shed light on the Blight and, by implication, Grey Wardens like Davrin, who trace their lineage back to the time when the Magisters Sidereal first breached the Veil and created the Darkspawn.
Bellara
Bellara, played by Jee Young Han, is the other star of the behind-the-scenes trailer. In the promo, she says, oh no no, that’s cool… that’s the nice sort of rumbling. However, unlike Davrin, the character’s lines don’t reveal too much about her background. She probably isn’t from one of the countries in Thedas with a European accent, like Orlais or Nevarra, based on her American accent, but beyond that, there’s a lot of mystery.
Theoretical Painting
Some concept art for Dragon Age 4 suggests that characters will be able to recruit additional followers. It appears like eight people, who are likely the player’s allies, are silhouetted in one piece. One of the characters is obviously a female Qunari, and another piece of art has a female Qunari in it as well.
The five companions on the left could be humans or Elves, but the third figure from the left, with its clearly visible round ears, is clearly a human. Potentially a first for the Dragon Age canon, one of the characters is shown carrying what looks like a firearm slung over their shoulder.
Already, with its floating palaces and magical store signs, Tevinter has proven to be more sophisticated than its southern counterpart. That same figure carrying the gunlike weapon appears to be significantly stockier than the rest, suggesting she may be the first female Dwarf friend in the series.
The man on the far right, whose face is obscured by a peculiar green flame, is arguably the most intriguing element of the piece. This individual has all the makings of an Executor. In Inquisition, the Executors were merely hinted at as a mysterious organization standing in for unseen forces on the other side of the ocean.
Their racial makeup, if any, remains unknown. Some Inquisition operatives might vanish depending on the Inquisitor’s decisions, and the Executors might submit a letter to the Inquisitor explaining that the agents left freely to join a better cause. This may indicate that they consist of people of different ethnic backgrounds.

An Executor appears in Dragon Age: Tevinter Nights with their face obscured and their voice described as defying categorization as either male or female or a certain age range. Once their mask is removed, the flames covering their face may represent the same idea. It’s also possible that this is connected to the necromancy practiced in Tevinter, as another piece of concept art for Dragon Age 4 depicts a skeletal mage with a similar green glow around their face.
Despite the fact that the precise roster of Dragon Age 4’s followers has not been released as of yet, it appears to have more firsts than those explored in Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, the path they’ll take with the player is still a mystery. The fourth installment of the Dragon Age series is currently in production.
