After the group stage of the Dota 2 Lima Major came to an end with some amazingly tight results with some teams missing out on making it to the main event by only one game, the first round of matches in the bracket has been determined.
The 18 teams competing in the Lima Major were divided into two groups, and each group’s teams played two games against each other. The four teams from each group with the best record would move up to the upper bracket after all of the matches were completed, while the fifth- and sixth-place teams from each group would move down to the lower bracket.
The worst three teams would be eliminated and would not get any of the prize money or DPC points. Gamin Gladiators and TI 10 champion Team Spirit finished first and second in Group A, respectively, with records of 11 wins and 5 losses. However, due to tie-breaking procedures, Gamin Gladiators received the top seed.
The other two teams from Group A who made it to the top bracket had a similar experience, with Evil Geniuses and Talon Esports both finishing 10-6 but EG having the edge. Nobody will be expecting the next two clubs in Group A to make it to the lower bracket.
PSG. winners of LGD and TI 11 PSG and Tundra Esports both barely made it out of the group stage. Tundra only managed a 7-9 record, while LGD took an 8-8 record.
Tundra fans experienced particular anxiety on the last day of the group stage because their team had already played all of its matches in the earlier rounds and needed two sets of results to be favorable in order to avoid having to play tiebreaker matches and missing their flight home.

Lucky for them, TSM and Execration both lost their final games 2-0, which prevented Tundra from having to play any additional games. EHOME, who had a miserable 3-13 record, also left the tournament early, joining TSM and Execration.
Before the final round of matches in Group B had ever been played, Team Liquid and Entity had already clinched their positions as the group’s top two teams, with Liquid only dropping two maps throughout the whole group stage.
Whereas Knights, who finished last in the competition, put on a disgraceful performance at the other end of the table, picking up just one win and 15 losses.
With a 10-6 victory over Bet Boom on the final day of group stage regular matches, Shopify Rebellion advanced to the upper bracket as well. Bet Boom, one of the tournament’s shocks, finished seventh in Group B and was eliminated.
These outcomes indicated that there would be two tiebreakers to be played. Beastcoast and Team Aster had to compete in a best-of-three match to determine who advanced to the upper bracket and who advanced to the bottom bracket.
Then to select who would be eliminated and move to the lower bracket A best-of-three game was also required for Hell Raisers and Geek Slate. Aster triumphed in the first tiebreaker, and Hell Raisers defeated Geek Slate to continue the match.
The main event’s first round of matches will feature the eight teams that made it to the top bracket. The losers of each of those games will then proceed to play a team that made it into the lower bracket. On February 28, the opening game in the main tournament will begin.
