The game, developed by LEAP Game Studios and Tiny Ghoul and released by Good Shepherd Games, puts players in the shoes of a ‘chimera summoner,’ who embarks on an expedition to collect chimeras (monsters that can be battled) and eventually find “the real truth” about them.
Dicefolk Synopsis
There are over 100 distinct chimeras to gather, each with their unique skills to use in battle. The battles themselves are dice-based but not determined by luck. According to the Steam summary, “Dicefolk puts you in control of the action.
You choose the faces of the dice, giving you unparalleled control over your chimeras’ skills and attacks. It is entirely up to you, and your tactical decisions will determine your success in battle.”
Furthermore, you will be granted control of the enemy’s side of the combat, which is quite intriguing. According to a press statement, all of this is meant to increase the strategic depth of engagements. You may watch the latest trailer for Dicefolk to see these dynamics in action.
The recent popularity of Pocketpair’s survival-crafting game Palworld exemplifies gamers’ love for monster-collecting mechanics; it’ll be interesting to see how they’re used in concert with Dicefolk’s fascinating tactical ideas. If you’re intrigued, you can wishlist Dicefolk on Steam ahead of its release, and there’s also a free demo to try out.
