The new footage unveiled at The Game Awards has generated a lot of excitement, but after the disastrous release of Diablo Immortal, franchise fans have every right to be skeptical. The purely cosmetic microtransactions that Blizzard now insists upon are unfortunately the norm for AAA 60- to 70-dollar video games.
Diablo IV seems to be aiming for more of a Diablo II sequel than a Diablo III sequel, and it has a much darker and more adult aesthetic than its predecessor. Some of the things we’ve seen so far also show a new, significant influence: Diablo Immortal.

Sanctuary’s online multiplayer is quite similar to that of Immortal, another open-world MMORPG. It’s possible to create dynamic events and global bosses that require many players to take down thanks to the random folks you’ll encounter who have been dynamically matched with you. The majority of mobile players appreciated these additions.

It will be fascinating to see if Blizzard learns from Path of Exile and provides instanced regions where gamers may enjoy the game without having to worry about running into other players.
The visuals of Diablo IV also seem more realistic. It’s darker, more somber, and feels almost utterly dismal. Not only is the content excellent, but so is the visual quality.
Pre-rendered Blizzard wonders will still be present, but it appears that the game will feature a lot more in-engine cutscenes than its predecessor (and better-looking ones, at that).
