Bungie has made many improvements to Destiny 2’s gameplay and quality of life since the release of Lightfall and Season of Defiance. If a recent leak is accurate, the developer isn’t slowing down, as the leveling system appears to get a refresh in Season of the Deep.
The two significant additions the most recent expansion made to the game were Guardian Ranks and build crafting, with more features like in-game LFG scheduled to launch in 2023.
But, a change to the present gear-driven leveling system has been a long-standing player desire to Bungie, and this leak suggests Bungie is finally granting this wish.
The upcoming Destiny 2 season, Season of the Deep, will continue the guardians’ conflict with The Witness’s armies following the Lightfall and Season of Defiance events. Nothing is known about the Season’s content as of this writing.
However, there have been signs in the game that suggest players may be going back to Titan to carry on this conflict. The only details Bungie has provided about the upcoming Season are the upcoming weapon refreshes for Vanguard, Crucible, Gambit, Trials, and Iron Banner.
This will give players time to grind for the weapons that will eventually be eliminated from these games to make room for the new additions.
Prior leaks on the leveling front suggested Bungie was planning to alter Destiny 2’s leveling system to move away from the present system, which depends on the gear grind.
According to the most recent leak, gamers will be grinding “Power levels,” which can be acquired by overcoming obstacles and gaining experience points. For every 250,000 XP earned, players would advance one level; depending on the severity of the weekly and seasonal tasks, players would go into one to three groups.
So we’re replacing one leveling system for another leveling system?

A prior Season of the Deep leak also hinted at a modification to the present leveling system gains some support from the proposed adjustment.
Given that the current power level system necessitates grinding for higher-level gear to take on more challenging activities like raids and Grandmaster Nightfalls, it appears that the goal of this update is to allow players more freedom when it comes to the gear they utilize.
Bungie has not yet verified any of the rumored changes, and it is unlikely that they will until closer to Season of the Deep’s May 23, 2023 release date.
But, if the leak is accurate, it will effectively end weapon sunsetting and enable players to retrieve cherished classics from their vaults or collections because they will once more be functional.

The Mountaintop and Recluse, the one-two punch that ruled Destiny 2 in the months after Forsaken’s debut, are two such weapons that might make a comeback.
However, these two weapons and many more were retired due to power creep difficulties. A new power level system might exacerbate this issue unless Bungie adjusted the weapons to account for the level shift.
