With the release of the new Lightfall addition for Destiny 2 only a week away, the developer has been inundating us with information about it. We’ve learned so much in the past six months about Destiny 2 and its future expansion that, after pausing to take it all in, I’m convinced that this expansion brings more significant changes than any previous Destiny 2 release. It was also likely more popular in Destiny 1 than both Taken King and Rise of Iron combined.

Given that none of us have actually played the game, this says nothing about how good it is. The magnitude of the changes that Lightfall will bring to the game, though, is something that I fear may be overlooked. Hence, to review:
Equipment Selection When Playing – Bungie has implemented a system to save and swap load-outs on the fly, and it even pulls stuff from your vault, something that has been requested for the entirety of the Destiny series’ existence.

Redesigning the Combat Module
The new armor charge system, which combines Charged with Light and Elemental Wells, and several Well abilities have been moved to subclass 3.0 builds, is a huge rework of all combat modifications. Changes of this magnitude are unprecedented.
Enhancements to Artifacts
Bungie has also finally conceded to a long-requested modification, allowing us to unlock Artifact mods not as mods but as always-on perks, which means they won’t take up any slots on your armor.
Better Tools for Defeating Champions
Bungie has given all five subclasses a means to stun at least two out of three champions simply by utilizing some of their subclass verbs, which should make Loadouts a lot more flexible in addition to the always-on champion mods from the artifact above.
False Negative
At higher difficulties, shields are nearly impervious to non-matching weaponry, however, Bungie has removed this draining feature. No longer the case, and once again this means more varied loadout options across the board.
Making Adjustments
Bungie has simplified crafting to its rudimentary components by eliminating the new system’s crafting-centric currencies. To make endgame activities competitive with created weapons, they simplified Deepsight farming and let Adept weapons drop with crafting-like qualities.
Strand
In contrast to the first three of Destiny 2’s four expansions, this one will feature a whole new subclass. Strand is more intriguing than Stasis, in my opinion, because it is not simply “the frozen class,” but rather something totally new with its reality-bending strings that Bungie designed for this very moment. I can’t wait to experience it.
The End of Umbral Engrams
There will be fewer seasonal currencies to grind for in total, and these will be converted to seasonal engrams.
Positions of Watchmen
Although its exact implementation remains unknown, the concept is intended to provide a more unified sense of “directed” teaching for younger Destiny players and a goal for seasoned players to strive toward. This appears to be a much-needed addition to the game.
Year 5 of Destiny 2 will end on February 27, 2023.

Guardian Accolades
An interesting feature that could help motivate cooperative effort between squads. Nightfall Battlegrounds and Strikes are being updated this season, with Bungie starting with Arms Dealer and Lake of Shadows. Moreover, beginning with the Mars Heist, they are transforming Battlegrounds into Nightfalls.
Vintage Shaders for Sale on Ada-1
For those who didn’t join the game five years ago, this is a huge deal; I’m excited to see this feature developed more in the future.
