Counter-Strike: I’m not a huge fan of professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive competitions, but even I was blown away by Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov’s spectacular one-shot kill during a recent tournament. If you’ve never played CS: GO before, you should still check it out just to see what all the fuss is about. Ax1Le’s one-shot kill happens so quickly that most spectators didn’t have time to appreciate its awesomeness at the time.
On this date ten years ago, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was released. Ten years and countless updates, memories, and moments later, we’re excited to say CS:GO is just getting started. Thank you for playing alongside us.
Here’s to the next ten years; happy birthday, CS:GO!

Counter-Strike
The massively successful tactical shooter CS: GO from Valve has been available since 2012. As Valve has released annual updates over the past decade, the game has only gotten better. For the better part of a decade, Valve’s shooter has been a staple in the esports scene.
There are several CS: GO events, but the most prominent and well-attended are the Major Championships, hosted by Valve and known as the Majors. These tournaments award millions of dollars in prize money and draw millions of viewers each year. The most recent Major tournament was when Ax1Le executed his insane one-shot drop kill.

It happened yesterday during a match on the Mirage map in the fifth round of the IEM Rio Major 2022 Challengers Stage. Ax1Le, a member of the professional CS: GO team Cloud9, pretended to be a terrorist and prowled around bombsite B.
When he spies two counter-terrorists, he does what any rational person would do: he jumps out of a window and kills both of them with a single shot, all while maintaining such a narrow margin of error in his aim that, on replay, it almost looks as if he shoots through the wall. Certainly not something normal people would do…
Because of how quickly it all happened, the commentators at first were confused. After the round was over, though, a slow-motion replay showed exactly how spectacular Ax1Le’s shot was, and both commentators exclaimed, “What!?”

Even though he was killed shortly after making that amazing shot, his squad still managed to win the round in CS: GO. While it’s still possible that Cloud9 will advance to the championship round, he’ll always have that stunning, once-in-a-lifetime shot to remember him by.
