The release window and title for the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild have been confirmed. During Tuesday’s Nintendo Direct presentation, the world was introduced to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Until now, Nintendo had said the sequel’s name may give away too much, so they kept it under wraps. The game will launch for the Nintendo Switch on May 12th, 2023.
A new trailer for Tears of the Kingdom was also released by Nintendo, showcasing Link’s newfound flight abilities above Hyrule. Released in June for E3 2021, the trailer showcased Link’s new abilities, including flight, as well as new weapons.

The announcement of a sequel to Breath of the Wild at E3 2019 was met with great excitement. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has sold over 25.8 million copies since its first release in 2017 for Nintendo Switch and Wii U. The game expertly combined an open world with numerous staples from the larger Zelda series, such as unique powers and puzzle-solving.
The action-adventure game successfully avoided alienating beginners with a dauntingly large map while yet gratifying longtime Zelda fans. Hyrule was a delight to explore because of Link’s climbing and gliding abilities; soaring through the air is an unforgettable experience and the numerous different biomes, shrines, and treasures in the game more than repaid the player’s time and energy. Strong cooking mechanics, a wide variety of recipes, and a charming cast of characters and enemies round out the package.
Breath of the Wild 2 is now known as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
