This week, Baldur’s Gate 3 will receive Patch 5, and developer Larian Studios has guaranteed that it will address difficulties created by the previously released Patch 4.
Following the release of Patch 4, players experienced more significant performance concerns in Act 3, with several contacting declaring Baldur’s Gate 3 “unplayable” due to crushing latency.
In a statement issued to IGN, Larian revealed what caused the incident. It all comes down to the game refusing to forget undetected thefts and vandalism, which finally slowed late-game performance.
Patch 5 is *a lot* and we’re getting ready to talk about it. For now, we caught the nasty bug causing slowdowns and the good news is: it’s fixed in Parch 5! That, and so much more, is cooking for this week. https://t.co/KCtDb8MbQP

“In Patch 4, we introduced a fix that would prevent the Scrying Eyes in Moonrise Towers from immediately calling the guards on you when stealing, even if you were sneaking or invisible, for example,” Larian stated in a statement.
“This fix had the unintended consequence of causing unnoticed thefts and vandalism to remain stuck in the ‘did anyone see me’ pipeline indefinitely, rather than timing out and moving on, as intended.” In a real-world sense, the dungeon master is continually thinking about the player’s crimes of thievery and brutality without ever moving on or verbalizing them. I’ve been thinking about it for a long time.
“These unnoticed and perpetually active acts of theft and violence eventually slowed the game down.” The more a player performs certain acts, the more the game tries to keep everything up to date and in memory, and therefore, the more slowdowns occur. Essentially, the dungeon master is rendered inoperable. This produced speed concerns by Act 3, which we’re really delighted to announce we’ve rectified in Patch 5, which is now in testing and is set to release this week.”
