At Sony’s State of Play presentation, Team Asobi announced a new Astro Bot game coming in 2024 for PS5.
The game, called Astro Bot, has a first trailer that shows the cute robot jumping and fighting enemies to catchy music. The trailer also includes nods to classic games like PaRappa the Rapper and Journey, making it look like a fun celebration of PlayStation games.
After the presentation, more details were shared. Preorders confirmed that the game won’t be free. It will have six galaxies with over 80 levels, featuring planets with forests, beaches, volcanoes, and giant hourglasses.
Continuing the series’ tradition of using PlayStation’s technology, Astro Bot will have 15 new abilities that make use of the DualSense controller.
Astro Bot Game is Coming to PS5
Astro’s Playroom, which I think is still the best PS5 game, is finally getting a sequel. The new game, called Astro Bot, will be released on PS5 on September 6, 2024.

The first Astro’s Playroom was a free tech demo showing off the PS5’s features, while Astro Bot: Rescue Mission showcased the original PS VR. This new game will be much bigger. According to Nicolas Doucet, the studio director, it will be a “super-sized space adventure” and the “biggest” Astro game yet.
The game will have “6 galaxies and over 80 levels,” using the special features of the DualSense controller. New abilities include an airdash to smash through enemies and objects, and a giant sponge ability to soak up water and grow huge.
The trailer shows a variety of environments, boss battles, and big set pieces. The game also celebrates PlayStation history, featuring cameos from characters like Nathan Drake and PaRappa the Rapper. Doucet hints that these characters might play a bigger role in the story this time.
Astro Bot Introduces “Over 150” VIP Bots, Bringing New Hope for a Bloodborne Hint
Astro Bot to Feature “Over 150” PlayStation Cameos, Bringing Hope for a Bloodborne Hint
Astro Bot, the beloved platforming character, will return later this year in a game simply titled Astro Bot. This follows the successful launch of Astro’s Playroom, which is pre-installed on every PS5 console (so you really should give it a try!).
In a short three-hour adventure, Astro’s Playroom won over fans with its innovative use of the DualSense controller and its tribute to five generations of gaming.
Astro’s Playroom included over 50 Easter Eggs and cameos from gaming history. The upcoming sequel is tripling that number with more than 150 cute bots dressed as our favorite PlayStation mascots.
This information comes from a recent store listing, which mentions that we’ll be rescuing “over 150 iconic VIP Bots inspired by legendary characters from 30 years of PlayStation history.”
Astro’s Playroom featured nods to well-known PlayStation series like Uncharted, God of War, and Knack, as well as third-party games like Tomb Raider, Castlevania, and Crash Bandicoot. Many of these VIP bots were shown in the reveal trailer for the new game, suggesting they will play a larger role across 80 planets and six galaxies.
One noticeable absence from the trailer, which sparked a lot of discussion, was the Bloodborne Hunter. This character was featured in Astro’s Playroom and has been a topic of interest among Bloodborne fans and FromSoftware enthusiasts, who have been hoping for a remaster or PC port of the game for years.
The news that Astro Bot is tripling the number of cameos makes it likely that Sony will finally reference Bloodborne again. The last time we saw the Bloodborne Bot was four years ago, so this news is especially exciting for fans of the gothic action RPG.
Astro Bot’s Next Exciting Journey
Team Asobi just announced their fifth project with their famous robot. The last game they made with this robot was Astro’s Playroom, which came out with the PlayStation 5.
There were rumors for a long time that Team Asobi was going to make a new game. In 2021, they put out a job posting hinting that they were making their “biggest game yet.” About a year later, they confirmed it. They didn’t say if it would be another Astro Bot game.
Last week, a trustworthy leaker, Billbil-kun, said that the PlayStation Studios team was making a new game with their famous robot.
