Ubisoft recently sparked outrage among fans when it was revealed that a pop-up commercial was displayed during Assassin’s Creed Odyssey gameplay sessions. Players flocked to social media to express their displeasure, pleading for the vexing commercial to be deleted to avoid the abrupt break in immersion.
Ubisoft reacted to players in an X post, explaining that the pop-ups were the product of a “technical error,” recognizing that the situation was “disruptive,” and praising fans for their patience. Still, many were left unhappy despite the apologies.
Il semble qu’Ubisoft expérimente la publicité en jeu chez certains utilisateurs (Xbox et PS).

The ad was meant to show on the game’s main menu rather than interrupting gameplay as part of a 20% off Black Friday sale for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Instead, the pop-up would show when users attempted to view the game’s map, which many players thought was improper and distracting. Some fans reacted on Reddit, calling the action “intrusive” and “totally unacceptable.”

“We intended to display a promotion for Assassin’s Creed Mirage as part of the franchise news in the main menu of other Assassin’s Creed games,” Ubisoft said in a post on X. “Unfortunately, due to a technical glitch, the promotion appeared in one of our in-game menus instead.” “We want to provide the best possible player experience, and these disruptive pop-ups were promptly removed once we became aware of the issue,” the business noted.
We have been made aware that some players encountered a pop-up message in-game while playing certain Assassin’s Creed titles yesterday. This was the result of a technical error that has now been fixed.

While the corporation was quick to respond to the negative criticism, X users took to Community Notes a few years ago to notice a similar pop-up distraction (also on AC Oddessy). Whatever the cause, the recurrence of this mystery “technical error” has undoubtedly saddened fans despite Ubisoft’s best efforts to mitigate the damage.
