The new perks and “paradigm shifts” that will change the game in season 16 are detailed. The 16th season of Apex Legends will not introduce any new Legends. However, all 23 already playable Legends will receive visual updates. Under the new, class-based system that Respawn Entertainment announced on Monday, every fighter will receive at least one benefit.
Season 16 of Seven Legends, titled “Revelry,” launches on February 14. This new season will have a more extensive rebalancing than previous ones. Bloodhound, Wraith, Pathfinder, Mirage, and Lifeline are the five that have been playable since the game’s release in February 2019.
Slay your way through the Revelry Battle Pass and complete challenges to unlock rewards like Heartbeat Harmonizer Valkyrie, the reactive Headliner Mastiff, and Technocrat Crypto.

Horizon (who joined in Season 7, which launched in November 2020) and Seer (who will appear in Season 10, which will launch in August 2021) are the other two.
Assault, Recon, Support, Skirmisher, and Controller round out the five new specializations. The first two are standard fare for Apex Legends characters, but the final two are brand-spanking new. These designations and their benefits are created to help players strike a better balance while creating their fire teams.
The characters and their new assignments are:
- Recon: Bloodhound, Crypto, Seer, Vantage
- Support: Lifeline, Loba, Newcastle, Gibraltar
- Controller: Caustic, Wattson, Rampart, Catalyst
- Assault: Ash, Fuse, Mad Maggie, Bangalore, and Revenant
- Skirmisher: Pathfinder, Horizon, Octane, Valkyrie, Wraith, Mirage
Controller (Catalyst, Rampart, Wattson, Caustic)
Legends have access to new devices called Ring Consoles, located around the map. These devices reveal the next ring location (transferring this ability from Recon to Legends who are designed to rotate early and set up in new zone) pic.twitter.com/R6YfOG6vVE

Last week, during an online preview event, Respawn’s lead Legend designer, Devan McGuire, discussed each class’s main features and goals. The purpose of an assault legend is “combat utility and initiation,” as McGuire put it. According to the writers, “these are tales whose fundamental patterns focus upon leveraging their skills to push opponents to make combat judgements or mistakes.”
Having powers “which provide them substantial mobility options for creative escape tactics,” as McGuire put it, distinguishes Skirmishers from Assault Legends. They have an effective hit-and-run game and are skilled flankers.
Since the term was already used in Apex Legends, “Recon” should require no explanation.
But, McGuire said, these heroes “have been redefined specifically around enemy intel and tracking […] that they can share with their team and take advantage of.” Support legends are also somewhat unchanged and are best used “to protect, recover or resupply their squad,” he said. “So they either directly help their team or allow their squads to stay in fights or reset faster.”
The heroes of the Controller class, “are all about area setup. […] These are Legends who place their constructs or their abilities in the world to control the positioning and force enemies to fight on their turf,” McGuire said.
Here are the advantages. Each inventory slot for an assault character can store a unique stack of ammo, as they now have access to an additional shelf in the new red weapons bin. “Altogether, this makes them these more offensive mobile armouries,” McGuire said.
Skirmishers can see incoming care package drops from further away and can quickly locate the fall with the highest-value item inside. “They can also keep tabs on this revealed weapon, and they can tell if it’s been taken,” McGuire said, “so they can set up an ambush and take it back.”

When this change goes into effect, all Support Legends, not just Lifeline, will have access to the secret shelf in the blue supply containers. McGuire declared that the contents of this cabinet would soon include “valuable healing and survival goods.”
It will be harder for recon players to find safe havens in a combat royale because controllers will be alerted to the location of the shrinking ring thanks to aRing Console devices. McGuire said this fits with the Controllers’ role of setting up the battlefield and moving adversaries and teammates around it.
And that leaves the Recon Legends, like Seer and Bloodhound, who will get “a pretty big paradigm shift this season.” McGuire said. Seer and Bloodhound are being rebalanced beyond the capabilities afforded to them by the new categorization system since the unique insights they received on the battlefield, thanks to their talents, have led many in the community to view them as powerful.
“The Seer and Bloodhound changes are our first, but likely not the last stab at the notorious scan meta,” McGuire said. “The improvements we’ve made in season 16 are targeted at minimizing the general frequency of scans in the game, without hurting it,” or debuffing the characters to the point that they are no longer enjoyable to play.

For Seer, who has been criticized for being too powerful nearly since the moment he was introduced, the duration of his “Exhibit” ultimate ability will be decreased, and its cooldown will be increased. Similarly, his passive power, Heart Seeker, will be weakened; signs that point straight to an opponent’s position (within a specific range) will be removed.
“You will only get information on the heartbeat pulses themselves, which means you’re not having a constant lock-on following you around while you’re aiming,” McGuire said. Also, Seer’s heartbeat sensor makes him audible to nearby enemies. “Because they can hear you, there’s a little bit more risk in just pulling it out all the time,” he said.
If you have Bloodhound, you can use it to see the battlefield as a “white raven,” a virtual marking that flies off in the direction of the nearest adversary when touched. “It creates a longer sense of the hunt and helps him find those battles faster when there’s no one around,” McGuire said.
These are just the high points of the character overhaul in Apex Legends season 16; Respawn has more on the specific and more minor changes coming to all of the Legends when season 16 launches on February 14 across all platforms Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X).
