New World is the first game published by Amazon’s gaming label and has been popular on PC since it came out in 2021. Today, at Summer Game Fest Live with Geoff Keighley, Amazon Games announced that New World will soon be available on PlayStation and Xbox. The console version, called New World Aeternum, will be released on October 15.
New World Aeternum will include everything from the PC version, including the Rise Of The Angry Earth expansion, plus some new content just for Aeternum.
Amazon Games Announced New World: Aeternum
People are unhappy with the new changes in New World Aeternum because they feel Amazon is focusing more on the console version than the PC version. The updated combat system is made more for controllers rather than mouse and keyboard.
Today, we announced New World: Aeternum, launching on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Oct. 15, 2024.

Players are also upset with the slow updates and feel that the new content for PC isn’t enough after a long wait. Out of over 3,000 recent reviews on Steam, only 10% are positive.
There are also worries that New World Aeternum will shift away from its MMO roots towards action RPG mechanics. At Summer Game Fest, the team behind New World explained their goals.
Game director Scot Lane calls Aeternum a “spiritual successor” and mentions they’ve been working closely with players to make these changes. Senior producer Katy Kaszynski says that players who return after a long break will find a completely different game, while current players will see it as a continuation of their journey.
Amazon Games explains that they wanted to refine and streamline systems and improve the endgame content. Creative director David Verfaillie says the main story is the same but with new characters and elements added.
They have also made the game easier for new players by improving the quest experience and adding features like Group Finder.
Every long-running game faces the challenge of evolving. Instead of just adding small updates, Amazon decided on a soft relaunch to make bigger changes.
Lane and Kaszynski explain that Aeternum offers a lot of new content and experiences. They have reduced the grind while keeping the challenge and added new endgame activities like the first raid, a PvP zone, and solo trials.
They emphasize that they are enhancing, not taking away, from the endgame. For PC players who own the “Rise of the Angry Earth” expansion, Aeternum will be available for free.
New Features and Updates in New World Aeternum
The updated version of New World will have its first big player-versus-player zone, a new 10-player raid, solo challenges for endgame content, and more. Many core systems will also be improved, including better leveling and a new dialogue system.
Current PC players who own New World and the Rise Of The Angry Earth expansion will get the Aeternum updates for free at launch. Additionally, players who preorder Aeternum on any console, or log in on PC before October 14, will receive an Azoth Stalker mount.
New World is about a group of survivors on a strange and supernatural island after a shipwreck. It was released in 2021 for PC on Steam, where it had over 900,000 players in its first week.
New World Aeternum is set to release on October 15 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
